You will not have to quit eating all of the foods you love just because you have been diagnosed with diabetes. Eating fried foods and lots of pizza may appear like a thing of the past to you. Although, you are right when it comes to avoiding foods that are bad for you. But your taste buds do not have to suffer with foods that have no flavors at all. You can still consume diabetic foods that you will love, and can be of gourmet quality.

The terrific reward to creating a diabetes menu particular to you is that you can influence which diabetic foods you want to include. Just be careful that the foods you eat are going to help improve your diabetic condition. If need be, talk to your doctor about a diabetic food plan or even consult a dietician. They will help you to design a diabetic diet that is just right for you. If you need a diabetic diet to help keep your diabetes in check, then you have to know which diabetic foods are okay.

Your diabetic foods should be heart-healthy and include lean meats as well as foods that are lower in fat and sugar. Be certain you read the labels. This will open the doors to allow you to prepare meals that taste wonderful, and are also nutritious. By eating healthy diabetic foods, and maintaining your diabetes, you will also save your heart from developing heart disease. Eating the right foods will improve your overall health.

The last thing to keep in mind when creating a diabetic menu is if there could be a reaction between the foods you consume and your diabetic medications. You don’t want to eat foods that can cause serious problems when combined with your medicines, so it is important to consult with your doctor before you make any changes to your current diet.

In the beginning, making a diabetic menu can be daunting. Take your time and pick out the diabetic foods from each nutritional area that appeal to you and are good for you. This will become easier for you to do over time. You might even find great-tasting and enjoyable meal combinations that you never even dreamed of before!

Type II diabetes is spreading like plaque. It is specifically becoming more common in modern societies. There are many contributing factors that aggravate the disease. The most major among them are unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise. Hereditary also plays its part. However, most people are unaware that disease can be controlled by sticking to the properly planned diabetes type II menus.

Type 2 Diabetes – Basic Facts

A carefully collected data shows that around 20 million residents of USA are suffering from diabetes. More than 95% of these are suffering from type 2 diabetes. The more alarming figure is that average age of diabetic patient has dropped from 52 years to 46 years when the current data is compared with the one collected in 1988.

Even worse news is that diabetes is not limited to only old aged people. Teenagers and even youngsters are also acquiring the disease. Further both genders have an equal tendency of acquiring this disease.

So the question may arise that how does this disease set in? The basic reason behind this is the dysfunction of pancreas. The disease arises when the insulin production by pancreas is impeded because of any reason. Occasionally the cells start to role abnormally and they become unable to use the provided insulin in the bloodstream. Insulin is the hormone that is required to convert glucose into energy.

Symptoms Of Diabetes Type 2

The most problematic thing in type 2 diabetes is there are not any obvious symptoms of the disease. The most common signs of diabetes however are

* Upsurge in urination
* Intensified thirst
* Appetite increase
* General exhaustion
* Slow healing of wounds
* Indistinct vision
* Erectile dysfunction in men
* Recurrent vaginal infection in women

If someone is experiencing any of the above mentioned symptoms it is better to consult doctor at its earliest.

Treatment of Diabetes Type 2

The most important step in treating diabetes is to lose weight. Most doctors are of the view that losing of added weights helps in the proper control of blood sugar level. This also decreases requiring diabetic medication. The best two methods of losing weight are

1. Exercising regularly
2. Following a proper diet menu

Exercise

Cardiovascular exercises and weight training help to trim down not only the waist but also blood sugar levels.

Diabetes Type 2 Menu

The most important nutrient the diabetic should consume is proteins. It helps to build the muscle and bone mass of the body. This further helps in generating energy as well. The healthiest proteins for diabetics are low fat milk, skinless turkey, soy food, nuts and legumes. Generally a person must accustom himself to eat more fruits and vegetables instead of preserved and canned foods.

In order to monitor the foods you eat in breakfast, lunch and dinner it is good to design a diabetes type II menu. The typical items that can be included in type II diabetes menu are potato salad, Spanish omelets, green salad, and shrimp, grilled chicken sandwich and fruit yogurt. These meals are not only healthy but also mouthwatering.

Don’t let diabetes cause you to become bored with your diet! There are a lot of foods, even very tasty desserts, out there for you. Check out the recipe sections of my website http://diabeticenjoyingfood.squarespace.com to see for yourself. Try new recipes, serving at least one or two new dishes a week. Just because you or your loved one is diabetic doesn’t mean your meals have to be boring. In fact, the whole family can benefit from eating as the diabetic does. Pick at least two or three new recipes from our lists now and try them over the next week. Come back once a week and do the same thing. This will help you keep your menus fresh and tasty! Most of the non-diabetics in your household won’t even know they are eating a diabetic menu! It can be that good! Following are a few examples of the recipes you will find on my website:

For a tasty breakfast bread, brunch item, snack, or even dessert try Apple Bread. Made with canola oil, fresh apples, egg substitute and Equal Sugar-Lite, this is a tasty and healthy choice.

APPLE BREAD

1 cup canola oil

2 cups peeled and diced apples

3 eggs, well beaten or 3/4 cup egg substitute

2 cups Equal Sugar-Lite

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together thoroughly the oil, apples, eggs and Equal. Mix spices with flour and add to apple mixture. Stir together well. Add vanilla extract and nuts. Mix well. Pour into two greased and floured loaf pans and bake for 50-60 minutes. Cool about 10 minutes then remove from pans to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Thumb Print Cookies are good for snacking (especially good for diabetic youngsters who want some milk and cookies after school) or used as dessert. You can serve them with sugar-free ice cream for a tasty and filling dessert.

THUMB PRINT COOKIES

1/4 cup shortening

1/4 cup butter

1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed OR 2 tbsp Splenda brown sugar blend

1 egg yolk, reserve white for later

1/2 tsp. vanilla

1 cup sifted flour

1/4 tsp. salt

Finely chopped pecans for rolling

Mix together the shortening and butter. Beat in egg yolk, vanilla and brown sugar. Mix well. All flour and salt. Mix thoroughly. Roll into 1-inch balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg white. Roll in pecans. Place about 1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Press thumb gently into center of each cookie. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Add a dab of sugar-free jelly to the center of each if desired. Makes 2-dozen cookies.

Note: This recipe uses a small amount of brown sugar. This puts a nominal amount of sugar into each of the 24 cookies which should be counteracted by the egg and nuts. However it is important to be aware of this and work into your diet accordingly! Or you can substitute 2 tbsp of Splenda’s brown sugar blend.

Yankee Pot Roast is a good recipe for those who work and want to have dinner ready when they get home. This is a slowcooker recipe which can be very convenient for busy families. You have meat and vegetables ready, add a salad and a quick dessert. Dinner is served.

YANKEE POT ROAST

2 1/2 – 3 lbs beef chuck roast

1 lb med baking potatoes, scrubbed, quartered

2 large carrots, cut into inch-size pieces

1 medium onion, quarted

2 bay leaves

Just because there is a diabetic cookbook available in the store, you should not think that it will help your condition. People with diabetes do need to live with a lot of restrictions in their diet. With the help of so-called diabetic diets, they try to induce diabetics into buying their books. But they do not necessarily provide value for money.

There are several reasons why diabetes cooking does not work for everyone. One of these is that, and you will be surprised to know this, no two diabetics will have the same kind of body conditions. This means, no two of them will need to follow the same kinds of restrictions. While one diabetic patient may be allowed to eat a frozen dessert once in a while, it may be totally taboo for another. All this depends on the patient’s individual blood sugar level. Your health expert is almost always your best guide in preparing a healthy diabetic menu that’s customized for your needs.

All diabetes foods are not good for you. Most of them have generic recipes that follow common diabetic recipes like “save the sugar, add the fiber”, which are written on the premise of one-size-fits-all. While these recipes are ‘safe’, they may not be customized to your condition. What you actually need to know is what kind of food you can have for your own condition. This you can know by checking out the calorie count and the glycemic index of the recipes. If a diabetic cookbook mentions these values, you can customize it for your needs. Your health advisor can help you in what recipes you can select for your condition from such books.

Some of the better patient foods have a list of substitutes that you can use in place of your favorite foods that you cannot eat safely anymore. They will also let you know what kind of exercises and supplementation you must do in order to keep your diabetic condition in check and to help the foods in your body to get metabolized better.

In conclusion, you must remember that all diabetic cooking that you will see in the stores or online for you. But there definitely are cookbooks with vital information on the recipes that you can use. Also look out for books that guide you on exercise and other methods that can help you live healthier, notwithstanding your diabetic condition.

Patient food is different from our general methods of cooking because it pays great attention to the health requirements of the consumer. The food is not just about palatability; it is about health. A diabetic cuisine will rule out all the foods that are unhealthy and include the foods that can help to bring the blood sugar down. So, you can expect that a lot of your favorite foods may be out of your daily menu, but that does not mean the healthy food you will eat will be any less palatable or nutritive than what you are eating right now.

In fact, people have a totally erroneous idea about diabetes food. They think that sugars and starches must be totally removed from the diet. But if that happens, the body will find it very difficult to get its energy. The body does require a modicum of sugars and starches, even though the person is diabetic. But how much of it to use is a question that bothers people who are cooking for diabetics. This will actually depend on the patient himself of herself, based on how intense the condition of diabetes is within them. But, a proper health guide will help you in organizing your take control of your diabetes in such a way that you include the permissible amounts of sugars and starches in them. Or they will guide you in properly using sugar free (hypoglycemic) substances. This can really go a long way in making diabetic cuisine palatable.

Most people with diabetes of the type 2 tend to gain weight. This brings on further complications in the form of cardiovascular disorders such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure and the like. That is the reason why a proper diabetes menu will also be targeted for losing weight. Diabetic cuisine is designed to be low calorie so that it does not contribute to the weight gain in those who consume it.

You can get tips on diabetic delights from over the Internet, which is by far the most exhaustive source for such cuisine. The recipes on the Internet far outnumber the recipes in the books. These tips have several recipes that can be duplicated in the kitchen. The main intention is to keep these recipes low in sugars and in calories but to make them acceptable as items of regular cuisine. At the same time, these guide have appendices on exercising and living healthy and, most importantly, not to let diabetes get in the way of a normal lifestyle.

Health foods are available quite easily nowadays; you can learn them off the store shelves or you can get them from the Internet. But you must know that a patient cruise is not just about recipes. The better ones in this genre will actually teach you how to live an ideal lifestyle so that your diabetic condition does not get aggravated. The following is a list of things that a patient cooking will teach you:

1.	The first thing is of course how to cook for a diabetic in the healthiest possible way and without compromising much on palatability. There is an intentional effort to keep the recipes tasty but without the ingredients that diabetic persons must abhor.

2.	The focus of such tips is on individual meals rather than the entire diet. Some of these tips will deal with diabetic breakfasts, some with diabetic lunches and dinners while some will be about diabetic snacks. This way it helps to focus on each part of the diabetic menu.

3.	There is always a section on salads and soups in all favorite foods. This is the most important section because good soups and salads can help a diabetic person to eat more.

4.	There are several substitute foods mentioned in a diabetes cooking. You can learn tips on switching over from an unhealthy food to a healthier one. This helps you to keep your diabetic menu as close to the menu you had before you were diagnosed with the condition.

5.	Essential guide to planning, shopping and cooking for diabetes will not want you to completely eliminate sugars and starches from your diet. But through right calculations, you will be able to include them in your diabetic menu and still stay above healthy limits.

6.	The best part of a good diabetic cooking is the information provided on the nutritional value of each food, including carbohydrate content and calorie count. This helps to monitor the entire food pattern.

7. Diabetes diet recipes tell whether it is advisable to stay with some kind of fad diet or not. You may know of various diets that are engineered for people with diabetes conditions; but cookbooks will help dispel the myths about most diets and let you know whether you should stick with them.

8.	These recipes will never want you to cook larger portions of foods, because among other things, large food portions are quite detrimental to a diabetic. You will learn how to cook little and still manage appetite control.
